My parents brought our family to the United States from Mexico when I was 10. We didn't have much growing up. My dad went to 2nd grade; mom never went to school at all. While my parents couldn't give me monetary support, they made sure we had what we needed. My dad says in this country education is where you are going to get somewhere. I couldn't have made it through without the help I got from scholarships. When I started COD I rode the bus two hours there and back. None of my family had ever been to college so when trying to decide what to do for a career I had to look to my teachers for inspiration. I was always comfortable with numbers... one of my counselors at COD said, "You need to take some basic courses, so take beginning accounting." From the first class, I loved it and knew this is what I wanted to do. I'll soon have my CPA. As for fun, Amy DiBello, my English teacher at COD, got me started reading. Now, I joined a book club and the members are probably some of my closest friends.
